- Create a clear visitor's entrance
- Enhance the visitor's introduction to the fort
- Implement the fort's master plan by recreating missing buildings
- Provide modern facilities for staff and visitors
- Create the appearance of traditional Hudson's Bay post-in-beam construction and meet current energy, safety, and accessibility requirements

Originally established in 1833 along the Nisqually River Delta, Fort Nisqually was the first European trading settlement on Puget Sound. Relocated in 1933 - 1934, the fort is located inside Tacoma's Point Defiance Park where it operates as a "living history" museum.
