Whitman College's Old Music Building is one of the oldest structures on the campus. Built in 1910, it was designed by renowned Northwest architect, Ellis F. Lawrence.  The building is a fine example of early 20th century campus architecture with Georgian Revival detailing. The interior features a three-story atrium topped by a stained glass skylight, surrounded by music practice rooms and a skylit recital hall.

BOLA's predecessor firm, Boyle Wagoner Architects, completed a master plan in 1996 for the 18,100 sq. ft. building, to adapt the building for use as a technologically enhanced classroom facility. The work included programming and design of the recital hall, atrium, large lecture hall and seminar rooms, installation of new mechanical/electrical and data communications systems, new elevator, and required code-related upgrading.  The master plan was implemented in 1998.
