BOLA led a design team in rehabilitation of this building, working with Washington State Parks and a group of local volunteers. The 1909 wood-framed, combination freight and passenger depot at South Cle Elum is situated beside the previous trackbed of the electrified Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road), the last northern tier continental railroad. The property, which also includes an electrical substation and remnants of a roundhouse, is now owned by the Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission.

The interior of the 132’ by 24’, 3,170 square-foot building was originally divided into four separate sections -- freight/baggage room on the east end of the building, a commercial kitchen/café in the center, and the station agency, passenger ticket window and waiting rooms for passengers and train crew at the west end. Rehabilitation resulted in reroofing, restoration of the exterior siding, windows and doors, and rehabilitation and adaptive use of the interior for use for exhibits and equipment rentals, in addition to a new cafe. The depot and cafe are an integral part of the Iron Horse State Park, along the John Wayne Pioneer Recreational Trail.
