BOLA Architecture + Planning led a planning study for the University of Washington on the proposed relocation of the historic Cunningham Hall. The building was originally built as the Washington State Women’s Building for the 1909 Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition. A two-story 4,900 sq. ft. wood frame structure, Cunningham Hall is historically significant because of its association with early 20th century women’s suffrage, and is listed on the Washington State Heritage Register.
BOLA’s study included condition reviews; rehabilitation and restoration recommendations; an analysis of the move route logistics; three recommended new sites; and cost estimates.
BOLA subsequently designed the building rehabilitation and developed bid documents for the complex multi-phased move of the building to a new site near historic Parrington Hall. Renovations at the new site include new foundation landscaping, and exterior finishes along with infrastructure upgrading.
